This course is designed for students that are looking to obtain a Colorado Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP) or are interested in the basics of owning and using a handgun in today’s changing world. This class not only meets and exceeds all Colorado requirements for obtaining your CHP, but you’ll learn a TON and have fun – I promise!
Since many of our students are seeking a Colorado Concealed Handgun Permit for self-defense purposes, this class is the first step into understanding how a firearm plays into the self-defense picture. Learning how to shoot is an important piece of puzzle – so if that’s your goal, this is a great class for you.
But just like knowing how to steer and work the gas and brake on a car are important skills, being an Indianapolis 500 race car driver is far more complex than just learning how to drive. Self-defense is a lot like the Indianapolis 500. So if your goal is self-defense, learning how to shoot is only the first “baby step” on that path. This class will help you get to where you want to go. And since we’re all responsible adults, we assume that you all understand how important follow-on training is when it comes to being an armed civilian in our community.
This class covers all of the things you’d expect it to cover like firearms safety, how the gun works, the “three hurdles of ammunition,” how shooting works, how to get better, and a detailed approach to the laws regarding the use and ownership of firearms, particularly as an armed civilian. But this class is more than just “learn to shoot.” We’ll give you the tools you need to accomplish your firearm goals, no matter what those goals are. Yes, this class meets and exceeds all of the requirements to apply for your Colorado Concealed Handgun Permit. And yes, we’ll teach you how to shoot. But more than that, in this class we’ll start teaching you how to defend yourself. This class is focused on real-world skills, range tips, violence awareness tips, and so much more – all geared toward the real world. We’re preparing you for real-life here and everything we do is to prepare you for that.
This class is held in the classroom only and does not include live shooting. While the State of Colorado does NOT require a range component in order to apply for your CHP, we absolutely recommend that everyone also take our Level 1 Range Class – Concealed Carry Fundamentals. Since we emphasize personal responsibility, we respect our customers enough to allow them to decide whether they need a live-fire class or not. It is HIGHLY recommended for all new shooters and those who are not able to get to the range as much as they would like.
Students will receive a course completion certificate and a class summary handout. In this class, we will discuss:
- Using a gun for self-defense
- Handgun safety
- “Three hurdles of ammunition”
- Shooting fundamentals
- Firearm and self-defense laws and intro to how the legal system works
- Next steps
Colorado permit holders are also permitted to carry in additional states that have reciprocity agreements with the State of Colorado. Please visit the Colorado Bureau of Investigation Website for an official list of States that have Reciprocity agreements with Colorado.
